Bespoke Staircase Designs

Bespoke Staircase Designs

At Glass & Stainless, our bespoke staircase designs feature only the highest levels of craftsmanship and careful attention to detail. Whether it’s a commercial or residential property, we can design the perfect staircase to fit the aesthetic you’re striving for. We use a mix of both traditional and contemporary materials to complement the character and interior decor style of the property.

Bespoke staircase design that captures attention

The bespoke nature of our staircases means that we have far fewer restrictions to accommodate when developing ideas. We don’t have to stick to a straight, single flight staircase with a standard and rather uninspiring balustrade. Our staircases can curve and twist in amazing ways, sympathetically following the contours of the building or providing a stark and eye-catching contrast.

Our bespoke staircase designs are only elevated further by our gorgeous finishing touches, such as subtle LED lighting or delicate engravings on glass balustrades.

The most successful bespoke staircase designs are those which give careful consideration to the amount of space available. If the staircase needs to fit neatly and unobtrusively in the corner of a room, a spiral staircase is likely going to be the best option as it has the smallest footprint. Similarly, a floating (cantilevered) staircase can allow you to make better use of the space underneath the stairs, rather than filling an understairs cupboard with clutter.

In contrast, if you have a large, open and relatively empty space, you might want a more dramatic staircase that’s going to make an immediate impact. A sweeping curved staircase is ideal for this. Think of those memorable film scenes where the protagonist appears at the top of the stairs and all eyes are on them as they elegantly descend a curving staircase. With a bespoke staircase design, you can achieve that sense of magnificent drama in your own property.

If the space is wide enough, you could even install two staircases. A beautiful symmetry can be achieved from having a curving staircase either side of a central focus point.

Improving safety with a balustrade

Whatever our bespoke staircase design, the balustrade is never an afterthought. Balustrades are a fundamental practical element of a staircase but they also pull the entire design together. We put great effort into selecting a balustrade that will best complement the shape of the staircase, the materials used and the overall effect you’re looking for.

For example, we can create a bespoke frameless glass balustrade that perfectly follows the curve of a helical staircase. The balustrade might even be separate from the staircase itself, with metal poles rising from the floor to the ceiling on the open side, or simply a glass panel that fills the entire gap.

Balustrades can be made from a single material, like stainless steel, or a mix.

Our process

Adding a pop of colour

Few people stop to consider colour when drawing up plans for their staircase but it can make a massive difference. Coloured LED lighting inserted into the rise of the stair can lend it a fun, almost playful air. Additional lighting is always welcome on stairs, particularly if they will be used by children or the elderly. With inlaid LED lighting, you don’t need to light up the entire hallway and landing.

Tinted glass panels, meanwhile, can add so much needed interest in what can often be a rather dull area of the property. If you’re looking to install the staircase in a commercial setting, why not match the glass tint to your unique brand colours?
