Getting the bespoke staircase of your dreams doesn’t have to mean purchasing a completely new one, or even moving house or office. At Glass & Stainless, we have plenty of experience in refurbishing staircases for both residential and commercial properties.
This is a brilliant way of reducing costs and disruption without compromising on style or finish. With just a couple of modifications and adjustments, your staircase can be brought in line with the latest trends and fashion.
Here are just some of the changes we could make to give you your perfect staircase refurbishment.
Adding a balustrade in a staircase refurbishment
The addition of a glass or stainless steel balustrade can instantly modernise a tired and dated staircase. Both materials sit well with a more traditional wooden staircase, giving your home a contemporary look and feel.
When moving up and down a staircase, it’s best to have a decent level of light in order to be confident of your footing. However, solid panel balustrades prevent much natural light from reaching the stairs themselves. Due to the transparency of glass, light is able to flood through, reducing your reliance on artificial lighting. If you would prefer that the stair treads remained obscured, you could choose a more opaque, frosted glass. Coloured glass is also an option, helping your staircase to truly stand out in a hallway.
At Glass & Stainless, we use toughened glass for your safety and peace of mind when you are refurbishing your staircase. Between 4 to 5 times stronger than normal annealed glass, our toughened glass meets the high standards of UK building regulations.
Replace the treads in a staircase refurbishment
Over time, staircases are subject to a lot of natural wear and tear and can begin to look shabby. Sometimes the stair treads can be brought back to life through a bit of elbow grease. For example, painted wooden treads can be sanded or stripped back to the original wood and then stained, or you could fit a more forgiving carpet.
Alternatively, you could opt for a more extensive renovation and replace all the treads. This would be the perfect opportunity to choose a more striking staircase design, such as glass. To further maximise the amount of light, you might also consider removing the staircase rises.
